The most beautiful trekking tours in Bhutan

Would you like to experience the heart of the Himalayas and get up close and personal with the rural culture of Bhutan? Then a Bhutan trekking trip is the most intensive way to get to know remote villages and small monasteries. Choose the right route from over 25 trekking tours and hike through a piece of untouched nature. Around 15 of these treks are among the most impressive tours that we would like to introduce to you.

Our Bhutan treks take you through breathtaking landscapes, past majestic mountains, deep valleys and idyllic villages. Whether you are an experienced trekker or looking for a challenge for the first time - our range of Bhutan treks offers the right adventure for everyone. Discover the beauty of Bhutan with us on an unforgettable trekking trip that is specially designed to your wishes. Immerse yourself in the world of individual trekking and let yourself be enchanted by the magic of Bhutan.

We are also happy to recommend day hikes away from the main routes. We know all of our tours personally and attach great importance to fair treatment of people, nature and culture. Combined with a visit to a festival, you will experience the tradition and culture of remote mountain villages on your Bhutan trips.

From mid-April to the end of May and in autumn is the best time for a trekking trip in Bhutan. Enjoy treks through blooming rhododendron forests and the view of the enchanting Himalayas. But even in April you have to expect cold nights at an altitude of 3000 meters. As the nights gradually get warmer in May and June, visibility of the often cloud-covered peaks of the Himalayas deteriorates.

The best view of the blue sky and the high mountains in the Himalayas is in autumn. From mid-September to early December, the mountain slopes, beautifully covered in gentian and edelweiss, welcome you. During the day, the warm temperatures of up to 10 - 20 degrees (depending on the altitude) are ideal for an extended trekking trip. However, nighttime temperatures at high altitudes can fall below freezing (from +5 degrees to -10 degrees).

The right Bhutan trekking equipment

We work with well-known manufacturers such as Salewa, Vaude and North Face, who equip our treks with excellent tents and equipment. Of course, you will be accompanied by a team (experienced guide/local mountain guide, cook, helper, horse guide) who will lead you and your luggage safely through Bhutan. We have pack horses available to transport your luggage, which may have to be changed several times depending on the district and regulations. If our trek leads through higher regions of Bhutan, yaks are sometimes used as porters.

During an individual Bhutan trip or small group trip, you can also discover Bhutan on hikes and day trips without spending the night in a tent. Simply start your tour from the lodge or hotel. Choose between 3-star mid-range hotels, 4-star comfort hotels or 5-star luxury hotels. We plan your individual trip through the dream country of Bhutan with a lot of heart and passion.

Difficulty rating of our Bhutan trekking trips

It is best to contact us personally so that we can give you our best recommendations for your personal assessment.

  • easy: easy trekking and day hikes → at an altitude of 2000 to 4000 meters, you hike on well-trodden paths with normal surefootedness. With a daily walking time of three to six hours, even trekking beginners can easily reach their destination.

  • medium: moderately difficult trekking → These tours are suitable for all experienced mountain hikers who are sure-footed and have a head for heights. You will be travelling at an altitude of 2500 to 4500 metres and will walk four to eight hours a day. For these trips, a medical examination beforehand and basic physical fitness are always an advantage.

  • difficult: demanding trekking → On tours lasting five to ten hours (sometimes longer), you will need to be very sure-footed. At high altitudes of up to 5700 metres (and a sleeping altitude of up to 5000 metres), our tour will also occasionally take you over small glaciers and pathless terrain. The basic requirement is a perfect medically confirmed state of health. A trek like this requires absolutely good physical condition and athletic preparation.

Is my deposit and trip financially secured by a security certificate?

Yes, your deposit is safe, you book with a German tour operator and receive a travel insurance certificate - this completely secures your trip financially...

When is the best time to visit Bhutan?

The best time to visit Bhutan is during the spring and autumn seasons (March to May and late September to December), when the weather is mild and visibility is clear. Winter months may be cool, especially in higher altitudes, and the monsoon season (June to August) may experience increased rainfall

Do I need special insurance for trekking in Bhutan?

Yes, it is strongly recommended to have travel insurance that covers trekking activities, as hiking or trekking in remote areas and at high altitudes can pose risks.

Which trekking routes are particularly popular in Bhutan?

Popular trekking routes in Bhutan include the Druk Path Trek, Snowman Trek, Jomolhari Trek, Laya Trek, Lunana Trek, Masagang Trek, and Bumthang Cultural Trek. Each route offers a unique experience and varying levels of difficulty.

Are altitude sicknesses a problem while trekking in Bhutan?

Yes, altitude sickness can be a problem, especially on trekking routes reaching altitudes over 5000m. It is recommended to familiarize yourself with symptoms and prevention of altitude sickness before the trip and to plan for adequate acclimatization time. We follow the motto "go high and sleep down," always spending 2 nights in the Paro Valley and 2 nights in the Haa Valley before starting the trek, or we conduct the treks at the end of a tour when you are well acclimatized.

What are the accommodations like during a trek in Bhutan?

Most travelers stay in tents set up by the accompanying team during trekking routes in Bhutan. We provide camping equipment as a tour operator. In some cases, there are also simple lodges or guesthouses along the route.

How difficult are trekking tours in Bhutan?

The difficulty of trekking tours varies depending on the route. Some trekking routes are more challenging and require good physical condition and trekking experience, while others are suitable for beginners. It is important to consider the difficulty levels of each route and choose one that matches your abilities.

How can I plan and book my Bhutan trip?

You can book your Bhutan trip through us - a registered tour operator. Travelers must arrange a prepaid trip with a licensed tour operator who handles the necessary formalities for the visa and SDF charges. We take care of all formalities.

What are the "SDF state charges" and how are they calculated?

SDF stands for "Sustainable Development Fee" and is a mandatory fee levied on foreign tourists in Bhutan. This fee contributes to financing education, health, and infrastructure projects in the country. The SDF fee is currently USD 100 per person per night. This fee is included in our tour price, and as a tour operator, we remit it to the government before the trip to Bhutan.
