Character:

An unparalleled trekking adventure! The Snowman Trek in Bhutan is considered one of the most difficult and beautiful trekking tours in the world. It connects three of Bhutan's most remote high valleys along the northern border with Tibet. Snow-covered peaks, ranging from six to seven thousand meters, line up like a chain, with a total route length of approximately 350 km.

This trek offers impressive landscapes, glacial lakes framed by mighty ice giants, secluded mountain villages, Bhutan's highest and holiest mountains, and encounters with people who have lived in these sometimes inhospitable areas for generations, following their own traditions and lifestyles.

The journey is framed by a magnificent hike up to the Taktshang Monastery, majestically perched high above the Paro Valley, two acclimatization days in the picturesque Haa Valley, and visits to impressive dzongs and cultural sites.

Private Tours:

Available daily from mid-May to June & late August to mid-November for groups of 2 or more (on request).

Requirements:

This unique trek is suitable only for physically fit hikers who can handle the altitude (mostly between 4,000 and 5,000 m), climatic conditions (cold, rain, fog, and snow), and the solitude and silence of the region.

You should have a healthy overall constitution and good endurance. You'll be trekking at altitudes between 3,500m and 5,500m, with ample time to acclimate at the beginning of the trip. Good health and physical condition are prerequisites. A sports medical check-up is recommended for your own safety!

During the trek, you will be accompanied by a local kitchen team, a guide, and porters or pack animals. Daily stages range from 6 to 12 hours, with ample breaks for lunch. You'll always have enough time to take photos and enjoy the scenery.

FAQ

Is my deposit and trip financially secured by a security certificate?

Yes, your deposit is safe, you book with a German tour operator and receive a travel insurance certificate - this completely secures your trip financially...

Do I need a visa for Bhutan?

Yes, you need a visa for Bhutan. It is issued by the Tourism Authority of Bhutan. As an official tour operator, we take care of this and will send you the Bhutan visa via email approximately 2 weeks before the start of your trip.

When is the best time to visit Bhutan?

The best time to visit Bhutan is during the spring and autumn seasons (March to May and late September to December), when the weather is mild and visibility is clear. Winter months may be cool, especially in higher altitudes, and the monsoon season (June to August) may experience increased rainfall

Are altitude sicknesses a problem while trekking in Bhutan?

Yes, altitude sickness can be a problem, especially on trekking routes reaching altitudes over 5000m. It is recommended to familiarize yourself with symptoms and prevention of altitude sickness before the trip and to plan for adequate acclimatization time. We follow the motto "go high and sleep down," always spending 2 nights in the Paro Valley and 2 nights in the Haa Valley before starting the trek, or we conduct the treks at the end of a tour when you are well acclimatized.

What are the accommodations like during a trek in Bhutan?

Most travelers stay in tents set up by the accompanying team during trekking routes in Bhutan. We provide camping equipment as a tour operator. In some cases, there are also simple lodges or guesthouses along the route.

How difficult are trekking tours in Bhutan?

The difficulty of trekking tours varies depending on the route. Some trekking routes are more challenging and require good physical condition and trekking experience, while others are suitable for beginners. It is important to consider the difficulty levels of each route and choose one that matches your abilities.

How can I plan and book my Bhutan trip?

You can book your Bhutan trip through us - a registered tour operator. Travelers must arrange a prepaid trip with a licensed tour operator who handles the necessary formalities for the visa and SDF charges. We take care of all formalities.

What are the "SDF state charges" and how are they calculated?

SDF stands for "Sustainable Development Fee" and is a mandatory fee levied on foreign tourists in Bhutan. This fee contributes to financing education, health, and infrastructure projects in the country. The SDF fee is currently USD 100 per person per night. This fee is included in our tour price, and as a tour operator, we remit it to the government before the trip to Bhutan.
