Further information
But be aware that only very few things are made in Bhutan itself. Most of the goods in a shop come from the neighbouring countries of India, China or Nepal. Unfortunately, not every shop owner is so truthful: goods produced abroad are often advertised as original Bhutanese. Of course, Bhutan itself also has a tradition of carving, painting and tailoring that has been handed down over many generations.
Use the weekend on your trip to Bhutan to discover the country's colourful diversity at a market. In Thimphu, Paro and other places, you can buy vegetables, fruit, rice and chilli as well as local clothing and jewellery. In these authentic places, farmers sell their goods to the local population.
