The top 3 attractions in Bhutan

1. Modern Thimphu

The capital of the country is located in the west of Bhutan and offers the most visited attractions. Numerous museums captivate visitors. Depending on your interests, a visit to the Museum of Traditional Textile Arts, the Folk Heritage Museum, the Academy of Arts, or the National Library is worthwhile.

The Thimphu Tsechu usually takes place in September and is one of the largest monastery festivals in the country. The colorful mask dances full of lively folklore are a must-see for every traveler to Bhutan. The city's weekly market is the largest in the country and another attraction in Bhutan.

Local vendors offer their products and handicrafts there. In modern Thimphu, you will also find the seat of government: Tashichho Dzong. The city is the starting point for many of our hikes and day trips.

2. Paro Valley and Tiger's Nest Monastery

Journeys to Bhutan usually begin in the Paro Valley, as the country's only airport is located there. Are you interested in cycling tours? Then join us on a round tour or hike through partly touristically undeveloped areas.

The region is not lacking in sights. Explore the mighty Paro Dzong with its beautifully carved woodwork and mandalas. During your journey through Bhutan, you must not miss the architectural and spiritual highlight of the country.

700 meters above the Paro Valley, nestled along a steep cliff at an altitude of 3,120 meters, is the country's most famous monastery: the Tiger's Nest Monastery. Marvel at this unique architecture and enjoy the unparalleled view over the Paro Valley. Of course, there are also numerous lesser-known monastery fortresses, which are also very appealing to visit.

3. Punakha Dzong

Here lies the "Palace of Happiness". The Punakha Dzong is still very well preserved, the second oldest dzong in Bhutan and a popular tourist destination. At this magical location, the reigning king, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, even gave his wife the nod.

Why not visit the Punakha Festival on a festival trip in February or March and discover the fertile valley where two rivers converge. Our tours and travels lead you to the attractions that make Bhutan widely regarded as the last paradise on earth.

Our experienced team at Bhutan Horizons surely has the right trip for you: whether it's Bhutan individual tours, Bhutan group tours, Bhutan festival tours, Bhutan trekking, or Bhutan rafting tours. Just contact us, and we'll find the perfect Bhutan trip for you.
