Federal Foreign Office

At present, there are no German diplomatic missions in Bhutan. In case of any concerns or issues, German travelers must travel to New Delhi, India, where the nearest German embassy is located.

Currently, there are only private sector collaborations and NGO engagements between Germany and the Kingdom of Bhutan, as well as consular relations established since the year 2000.

Security in Bhutan

Information from the federal foreign office regarding Bhutan

The Federal Foreign Office does not currently issue any specific travel warnings for Bhutan. Should this situation change, as a Bhutan travel organizer, we will always inform you adequately.

The health information provided by the Federal Foreign Office for Bhutan mainly focuses on standard hygiene recommendations. It is advised not to drink water directly from flowing streams or taps, but to boil it beforehand. Consuming packaged water with carbonation is even safer. Additionally, washing fruits and vegetables should be done with water from cans or bottles.

Notes on health precautions before traveling to Bhutan

To prepare for a stay in Bhutan, vaccinations that are currently recommended and periodically updated by the Robert Koch Institute are advised. This includes vaccinations against Hepatitis B for affected individuals. Immunization against Japanese Encephalitis is also recommended. If you enter the country by land where there is a risk of Yellow Fever infection, it is advisable to get vaccinated before traveling, even for short stays.

Advice on protection against Malaria and Dengue fever includes the sufficient use of appropriate repellents and protective clothing. Additionally, the use of physical barriers such as mosquito nets in hotels or similar accommodations is recommended.
